梦工厂,你的业界良心去哪儿了?——《疯狂外星人》毒舌影评

《疯狂外星人》是梦工厂最新的动画,现已登陆中国。回顾经典的《E.T. 外星人》《星际宝贝》和最近的大热《超能陆战队》,此片也是一个小孩跟其他世界的物种成为好朋友一起排除万难最终拯救地球破镜重圆的成长历险故事。如果这部电影是用来表达孩子们都有“幻想中的朋友”或是孩童在适应环境方面是弱势群体这两个不用过脑的问题的话,那这部电影还真不错。而但凡你把它正经当作一部“小伙伴类型片”来看的话,那“如此不出彩的叙事+这么老的梗”反正是戳不到我G点,不知道小盆友们怎么看。

Home is Dreamwork's latest animated feature hitting theaters across China. Reminiscent of other classics such as E.T,  Lilo & Stitch, and recently Big Hero 6, Home is another story in a lineup of films in which children befriend other-worldly beings and pass through various adolescent rites of passage with their aid. Perhaps such pairings are meant to explore children's tendency to form imaginary friends or used as a self-reflection tool to show children that being a misfit isn't bad. Or maybe because everyone just thinks children are mental. While these buddy film archetypes will remain timeless, it doesn't mean this particularly mediocre story is.

我们先来看看情节:片中有一种高等生物叫波波星人,它们控制地球要把人类都搬到澳大利亚的一个殖民地。女主角小钱(蕾哈娜配音)是一名小学生,途中跟妈妈失散,而后碰到波波星人小欧(生活大爆炸的吉姆.帕森斯配音)并跟他成了好朋友,俩人于是开始了搜寻小钱家人的旅程。

Home begins with an advanced alien race, the Boov”, taking control of Earth and relocating all humans to a colony in Australia. When 7th grader, Tip (Rihanna), and her mother are separated, she befriends a Boov alien named “Oh” (Jim Parsons from The Big Bang ) and together they journey on a search for her family.

整部电影不停重复笑料,重点是根。本。不。好。笑。对小孩的古怪个性、不守成规、个人主义的宣扬以及对道德的赞颂贯穿全片,这大概是从我小时候看第一部欧美动画到现在都没有变过的主题(除了《冰雪奇缘》),也不知道一代人的时间都过去了有几个小孩还吃这一套。人家只是来看场电影,又不用去拯救地球,也不用面对凶恶的敌人,看电影还要被说教真的会欢畅嘛?倒不如像《冰雪奇缘》一样,看完起码知道“长得帅的王子不一定就善良,外协迟早要栽坑”这种道理。(抱歉笔者我就是“冰雪”脑残粉)

The film is full of one-dimensional jokes repeated often, and are little more than not-so-clever puns. While it's full of positive messages for children to be okay with their eccentricities, to be non-conformist and pro-individualistic, this moral mantra is being recycled in so many films; it"s starting to grate our ears. Is there ever going to be kid who realizes the meaning of that message in a real world context, one in which that doesn't require them to save the entire world, and therefore force the approval of all their peers?

当然,主角是强势的女性&民族性角色,这在美国电影里还蛮缺。虽然美国人口40%都不是白人,但好莱坞电影的主角只有10%到15%不是白人。女性担当大任的电影也只有26%。所以这样看来,此片还是为百分比做出了微薄的贡献。片中的小钱是一个活泼可爱的小女孩,她有一头浓密的黑卷发,擅长几何学,拒绝与同级的女孩同流合污……这让我想起《公园与游憩》里的Leslie Knope,小钱的顽强、乐观和用不完的信心跟Leslie Knope对美国政治深信不疑的样子如出一辙。因此在看这部动画片的时候,我内心同时混杂着惊讶与困惑,心中既有痛苦和无趣的煎熬,又充满了温暖的同情心。

However, it's fantastic when American films feature strong women and racial minorities as central characters in an industry that is so lacking in them. Even though the 40% of the U.S. population consists of non-white people, only 10-15% of Hollywood films have non-white lead characters. Only 26% of films featured women with leading roles. Tip is a bright, lovable girl who embraces her black, natural curls, excels at geometry, and refuses to change for the other “mean 7th grade girls”. She reminded us of Leslie Knope from Parks and Recreation. Possibly a mismatched comparison, but the tenacity of Tip, her childlike optimism, and relentless faith in the goodness of others reminded us of Knope's goodwill approach to American politics that was utterly devoid of cynicism. Watching Home, it's an amazing and confusing rollercoaster of painful, unfunny bits mixed with heartwarming outbursts of compassion.

最后,小钱这个角色给人的感觉变成了表达性别及种族符号的工具,对故事情节并没有更多意义。好莱坞电影以为拥有这些元素就能把一坨屎变成黄金,就像我国某些电影以为有范冰冰就多烂都能卖。想让一个平庸的片子提升公众形象吗?往电影里加一堆其他肤色的演员就成,骂声立减。但群众的眼睛是雪亮的,忍你不代表我们傻。一部精于算计而诚意全无的电影,还TM是动画片,这谁能受得了,欺负小孩儿算什么英雄。

But she is also a tragically wasted character that goes to show good gender/racial politics have almost nothing to do with the quality of storytelling. We can't help but feel that studios are placing all their bets on positive gender and racial portrayals, hoping it'll save an otherwise bland story. Need to boost the public image of a mediocre movie? Put in a bunch of minorities and people will feel less inclined to criticize it. Audiences should be cautious in praising such films for its diverse images. Most likely, there's a mix of good intentions with calculated exploitation in the form of lip service.

如果真的要以电影去推动种族平等、性别平等,可能观众更想要看到的是他们精彩、曲折的故事吧。只是利用他们来包装电影的话,也许别的好莱坞电影公司虽让人不耻也略情有可原,但梦工厂你的业界良心呢?(广电总局这种时候你们又干嘛去了呢……)

Perhaps the best way to advance racial equality to simply tell better, complex stories about them instead using them as neat poster packaging so studios can check their diversity boxes.
